more on prayer

mm...before i found what i was trying to look for, i found something else...and the verse that i found pretty significant was

Psalm 66:18
If I had cherished sin in my heart,
the Lord would not have listened;

what the site said before this verse was that the Bible teaches that sin will stop God even hearing our prayers. it went on to say that we get clean hands and a pure heart by confessing our sins to God, through Jesus Christ.

right, so what i was looking for was "How can I be sure I am praying according to the will of God?"

Man's highest aim should be to bring glory to God (1 Corinthians 10:31 So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. ), and this includes praying according to His will. First, we must ask for wisdom. “If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him” (James 1:5 If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.). In asking for wisdom, we must also trust that God is gracious and willing to answer our prayers: “But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt” (James 1:6 But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.; see also Mark 11:24 Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. ). So, praying according to the will of God includes asking for wisdom (to know the will of God) and asking in faith (to trust the will of God).

This is the first paragraph

1) Pray for the things for which the Bible commands prayer. We are told to pray for our enemies (Matthew 5:44 But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, ); for God to send missionaries (Luke 10:2 He told them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.); that we do not enter temptation (Matthew 26:41 “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the body is weak.”); for ministers of the Word (Colossians 4:3 And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains. ; 2 Thessalonians 3:1 Finally, brothers, pray for us that the message of the Lord may spread rapidly and be honored, just as it was with you.); for government authorities (1 Timothy 2:1-3 I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, ); for relief from affliction (James 5:13 Is any one of you in trouble? He should pray. Is anyone happy? Let him sing songs of praise.) ; and for the healing of fellow believers (James 5:16 Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.). Where God commands prayer, we can pray with confidence that we are praying according to His will.
